Relationships are dynamic systems. One kind gesture or one conflict tells less than the pattern across time.

Learning goal

Analyse a relationship through repeated patterns of trust, reciprocity, communication, power, conflict and repair.

How to read this model

  1. Track several interactions.
  2. Mark trust and reciprocity changes.
  3. Identify power asymmetries.
  4. Analyse conflict and repair.
  5. Explain what changes or remains stable.

Steps in the model

  • Trust – What expectations are established, kept or broken?
  • Reciprocity – Care and responsibility move in both directions over time — not necessarily equally at every moment.
  • Communication – Needs, assumptions, silence, repair and register.
  • Power – Who sets rules, controls information, decides or can leave safely?
  • Conflict – What competing needs or values become visible?
  • Repair – What changes after conflict, apology, recognition or refusal?

Explanation

Relationship analysis works best through repeated interactions rather than isolated moral judgements.

Intercultural context, register and digital communication may change expectations, but evidence remains central.

Examples

  • Intent and effect can differ.
  • A reciprocal relationship can still contain unequal power.

For the exam

Describe the relationship dynamic as a pattern, then support it with multiple moments rather than one scene.
