The Long-Term Impact

The social problems created by the Industrial Revolution eventually led to movements for reform. Workers began to organise into trade unions to demand better wages, hours, and working conditions. New political ideologies, like socialism and communism (most famously articulated by Karl Marx), emerged as a direct response to the inequalities of industrial capitalism. Governments gradually began to pass laws to regulate factories, restrict child labour, and improve public health in cities. The Industrial Revolution did not just change our technology; it fundamentally reshaped our society, our politics, and our relationship with the planet.
